Etymology

In summary

From Ottoman Turkish طاغلمق (dağılmak), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (tağıl-, “to be scattered, to spread”), passive form of Proto-Turkic *dar- (“to go apart, scatter, spread”). The reason of -/r/- to -/ğ/- assimilation is unknown. Compare darmadağın (“something in complete disarray”), see also dağıtmak.
