From mistura (“mixture”) + -ar (forms infinitives), from Latin mīxtura, feminine participle of misceō (“to mix”), from Proto-Indo-European *meiǵ-, *meiḱ- (“to mix”). Alternatively from Old Galician-Portuguese mesturar, from a Late Latin mixturāre, from Latin mīxtura. Compare Italian misturare, archaic Spanish mesturar.
