Etymology

From Latin sūcidus, probably through the intermediate of Old Occitan sotz. Less likely directly through a Vulgar Latin form *sud(i)cius, following metathesis. Doublet of sudicio and sucido. Compare Sicilian zuzzu (and zozzu).
