Etymology

Probably derived from Latin nucleus (perhaps the variant form nuculeus), from nux (“nut”), or from the diminutive nucleolus; alternatively from nuceu(m), nuceus (“of nuts”), with influence from nocciola. Compare Sicilian nòzzulu.
