/ˈvamə/
Etymology

From Middle High German wambe, from Old High German wamba, from Proto-Germanic *wambō. Wamme shows the normal standard German development -mb- → -mm-, whereas the variant Wampe has an Upper German consonantism. The two are now usually distinguished semantically, Wamme referring to animals, Wampe to people in colloquial use.
