Same metathesis seen in parvus - παῦρος (paûros). For the semantics compare Old Armenian փոր (pʻor, “cavity, hollow; belly”). * Or from Proto-Italic *alwos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂el- (“to nourish”) + *-wós.
