Etymologie (Engels)
From Middle English talken, talkien, from Old English *tealcian (āto talk, chatā), from Proto-West Germanic *talkÅn, from Proto-Germanic *talkÅnÄ (āto talk, chatterā), frequentative form of Proto-Germanic *talÅnÄ (āto count, recount, tellā), from Proto-Indo-European *dol-, *del- (āto aim, calculate, adjust, countā), equivalent to tell + -k. Cognate with Scots talk (āto talkā), Low German taalken (āto talkā). Related also to Danish tale (āto talk, speakā), Swedish tala (āto talk, speak, say, chatterā), Icelandic tala (āto talkā), Norwegian tale (āspeechā), Old English talian (āto count, calculate, reckon, account, consider, think, esteem, value; argue; tell, relate; impute, assignā). More at tale. Despite the surface similarity, unrelated to Proto-Indo-European *telkŹ·- (āto talkā) (due to Grimm's law), which is the source of loquacious.
