Etymologie (Engels)

In summary

From Middle Dutch lollen. May ultimately derive from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂- (an expressive root and presumably an onomatopoeia). If so, then cognate with Latin lāmentum, Ancient Greek λῆρος (lêros), λάλος (lálos), λάσκω (láskō). Due to the association with lul (“cock”), the word may today be regarded as somewhat vulgar.
