/mɛˈzɪn/
Étymologie (Anglais)

Derived from Proto-Iranian *majā́, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *maȷ́ʰā́, from Proto-Indo-European *méǵh₂s (“big, great”). The root *mez was probably the original more common variation of the word, compare Middle Persian 𐫖𐫏𐫆 (myẖ /meh/), Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬰𐬀 (maza) and the comparative meztir. It may be that originally, the word meant "giant", compare Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬰𐬀𐬌𐬥𐬌𐬌𐬀 (mazaⁱniia, “giant”) and Persian مازن, مازندران.
