Etimoloji (İngilizce)

In summary

From Middle High German bort (inflected bortes), from Old High German bort (“edge, rim”), from Proto-West Germanic *bord. The modern form in -d and the sense “shelf” are due to influence of cognate Middle Low German bort (inflected bordes), from Old Saxon bord. The shifted t remains in related Borte (“border, e.g. on a garment”).
