Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سویلهمك, سویلمك (söylemek), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (söylemek, “to speak”), attested at 1317. Further etymology unclear, often regarded as corruption of Common Turkic *sözle- < *söz. However this might be folk etymology. See söz and sözle-.
