Inherited from Ottoman Turkish صنعتكار (sanʿatkar, “a tradesman, an artisan, an artist”), from Arabic صَنْعَة (ṣanʕa, “art, craft”) + Persian کار (kâr, “work, occupation, one who does”). Equivalent to sanat + -kâr. Cognates with Azerbaijani sənətkar, Northern Kurdish sinetkar, Uyghur سەنئەتكار (sen'etkar), Uzbek san'atkor.
