Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish كوتی (kötü). Perhaps related to göt (“ass”). For the sense development, compare Arabic دُبْر (dubr, “buttocks->unfortunate”). Initial /k/ preserved unvoiced perhaps to distinguish the word from göt. However, the vowel of the last syllable of kötü cannot be explained morphologically which makes unlikely a derivation from göt (“ass”). Dankoff puts under Armenian գոդի (godi) in his list of Turkish words whose Armenian etymology is speculative or not firmly established. To be compared to the Turkish dialectal form of Çanıllı kötü (“weak, thin, sickly”). For the sense development, compare with Persian پیس (“stained, wrinkled, leprous”) (archaic), whence Turkish has pis (“filthy”) and Azerbaijani pis (“bad, dirty”).
