Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قارشق (karışık, “mixed, adulterated, confused, disordered”), from قارشمق (karışmak, “to join and mix, to become confused and disordered, to interfere, to exercise control”), from Proto-Turkic *karïĺ- (“to be mixed with one another, to be tacked onto each other”), from *kar- (“to mix”) + *-ïĺ (“reflexive suffix”), morphologically kar- + -ış- + -ık.
