Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish اشیا, from Arabic أَشْيَاء (ʔašyāʔ), plural of شَيْء (šayʔ). Formally, the Arabic plural of şey. Despite the etymology, and like other borrowings of broken plurals, it has developed its own Turkish plural form.
