Etymology
From Middle Dutch teder, teeder, from Old Dutch *tidar, from Proto-Germanic *tidaraz, of uncertain ultimate origin, but perhaps from the same source as *taitaz (“delicate, tender”). Cognate with German Low German teder (“fine; delicate; thin; sensitive; tender; weak”). Compare also West Frisian tear (“weak; not strong”), English tidder.
