touteren

Meaning

  2. (archaic, transitive) to shake

Pronounced as (IPA)
/ˈtɑu̯.tə.rə(n)/
Etymology

First attested in the early sixteenth century and thus not attested in Middle Dutch and Old Dutch, but ultimately inherited from Proto-Germanic *taltrōną; compare Old English tealtrian. The shift from -alt- to -out- is the result of Middle Dutch L-vocalization.
