From Middle Dutch schure, schuur, from Old Dutch *scūr, from Proto-West Germanic *skūru, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *skūrō. The form schoer instead of expected schuur comes from an eastern dialect. Cognate with English shower (Old English scūr), German Schauer (Old High German scūr), Danish and Swedish skur (Old Norse skúr).
