From Old Italian risco, from Arabic رزق (rizq, “blessing, sustenance, i.e., unanticipated profit”) via Sabir. Alternatively, possibly from Vulgar Latin *resecum or deverbal from resecare, via risicare and later riscare, rischiare, both from Latin resecō (“to cut off”).
