From di- + ramo, or possibly from a Vulgar Latin *dērāmāre, from Latin rāmus (“branch”). Compare Romanian dărâma, Dalmatian dramur, Old French deramer, Spanish and Portuguese derramar; compare also Albanian dërmoj.
