From Middle English thermid, tharmid, thormid, from Old English þǣrmid (“therewith, with that, straightway, at the same time”); equivalent to there (“that”) + mid (“with”), from Middle English mid (“with”). Cognate with Dutch daarmee (“therewith, so”), German damit (“theremid, so”), Swedish därmed (“theremid, so, thus”).
