From Middle French caravane, from Old French carvane, from Persian کاروان (kârvân), from Middle Persian kʾlwʾn' (kārawān), from Old Persian 𐎣𐎠𐎼 (k-a-r), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ker- (“army”) (whence Old English here).
