Etymology

Borrowed from Latin antlia (“pump for drawing water”), from Ancient Greek ἀντλία (antlía, “bilge water”). Originally called Antlia pneumatica (“air pump”) in the 18th century by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille.
