Étymologie (Anglais)
Uncertain; probably related to French vogue, meaning "wave; course of success", and the verb voguer (“travel through the water”), and possibly of Germanic origin, from a Proto-Germanic root *wagōną. Probably ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ- (“to move, go, transport”). Compare Spanish bogar, Catalan and Portuguese vogar, Sicilian vucari. An alternative theory derives it from Latin vocāre (“call”). Also compare Ancient Greek βαυκάλη (baukálē, “cradle”).
