Etimologie (Engels)

In summary

From Middle High German kruoc, from Old High German kruog, from Proto-West Germanic *krōgu, from Proto-Germanic *krōguz. Immediate cognates are Middle Dutch croech, Old English crōg, of obscure origin. Possibly from a Proto-Indo-European root shared with Old Armenian կարաս (karas, “pitcher, large jar”), Ancient Greek κρωσσός (krōssós, “pitcher”), but the phonetics are problematic. Also compare Old Irish croiccenn (“skin”). The originally Low German Kruke (“crock”), cognate with English crock, is another word, though a relation with Krug is considered likely.
