In summary

From Ottoman Turkish اودنج (ödünc, “that is to be paid at some future time, a loan”) (alternatively اوتونج (ötünc)), from Ottoman Turkish اوتنمك (ötünmek, “to say, to request, to make a wish, to beg”), from Proto-Turkic *öt- (“to pass through, to make oneself heard, to take a loan, to be indebted”), morphologically öt- + -ün + -ç. Cognates with Azerbaijani ödünc, Kumyk оьтуьнч (ötünç), Turkmen ötünç (“apology”).
