Learned borrowing from Old Anatolian Turkish اورن (evren). Traditionally derived from evir- (“to spin”) + -en. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰋𐰼 (ebir-). Compare Gagauz evrem.
Rarely used after the 15th century, until it was revived during the Turkish language reform as a Turkic equivalent for the Arabic borrowing kâinat.
