Etimologia
From Old Galician-Portuguese saber, from Latin sapere (“taste, know”). The 1SG reflects an original */ˈsajᵒ/, in common with other Romance languages, of uncertain origin. The present subjunctive forms show consonant metathesis (sapiām > */ˈsajpa/ > Pt. saiba).
