- In contemporary usage (in Western Turkey) used to describe any uncultured person, regardless of ethnicity, and much less as an ethnic slur.
- (derogatory) A person from countryside living in a metropolitan area , viewed as being unsophisticated and/or naive.

From Northern Kurdish kuro, vocative of kur (“boy, son”). (sense 2, 3) is rather a neologism, and as such, might as well be a derivation from kır (“countryside”) or a combination of both.
