cingo

Meaning

  1. (conjugation-3) to surround, circle, ring, encircle
  2. (conjugation-3) to gird on; to crown or garland

Pronounced as (IPA)
[ˈkɪŋ.ɡoː]
Etymology

Perhaps from Proto-Italic *kengō, from a Proto-Indo-European *kenk- (“to gird, tie”). Possibly related to Lithuanian kinkýti (“to bridle horses”) and Sanskrit कञ्च् (kañc, “to bind”), कञ्चुक (kañcuka, “armor”); however, these terms present phonetic problems regarding their cognacy.
