From holo- + -gram, from Ancient Greek ὅλος (hólos, “whole”) + γραμμή (grammḗ, “letter, line”), coined by Hungarian-born British scientist Dennis Gabor in 1948, the 1971 Nobel prize winner in physics for his work in holography.
