Etimologia (Inglese)

Probably of Gaulish or other Celtic origin, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂- (“to dissolve, melt”). The fish was thought to be poisonous, and for the Celtic root compare Old Irish tám (“plague, death”).
