From earlier rebezo (1475), robezo (1434), from a cross between Old Spanish ueco (attested in Navarre in the 11th century) and revesso, reveso, revezo (“untamed, rebel”). The former is from Late Latin hybicum, from Latin ibex; the latter's origin is unknown.
