Udolph connects it with Avestan 𐬀𐬛𐬎 (adu, “watercourse”), which is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wódr̥ (“water”), and further with various eastern European hydronyms (including the Odra in Croatia, the Attersee in Austria, and the Adria).
