Etimologia (Inglese)

In summary

First attested in the 16th century. Borrowed from Middle Dutch almanag (Flanders 1426), from Medieval Latin almanach (1267), from Andalusian Arabic الْمَنَاخ (al-manāḵ, “calendar”). The Ibero-Arabic term is of uncertain origin. See also almanaque. Perhaps originally derived from Late Ancient Greek ἀλμενιχιακά (almenikhiaká, “calendar”). The term is used by Eusebius while quoting from Porphyry's Epistle to Anebo the Egyptian (Epistula ad Anebonem) in Book III, Chapter IV of his work Preparation for the Gospel (Εὐαγγελικὴ προπαρασκευή), written in the early 4th century. Probably, the word is ultimately of Egyptian origin.
