Derived from Ottoman Turkish قالبور اوستنه گلمك (kalbur üstüne gelmek, literally “to stay at the top of the sieve”) (whence also قالبور اوستنه گلن (kalbur üstüne gelen, literally “what stays at the top of the sieve”)) equivalent to kalbur (“sieve, screen”) + üst (“top, upper”) + -ü (“possessive suffix”).
