Étymologie (Anglais)
In summary
From Ottoman Turkish اشك (eşek, “donkey, ass; a silly, stupid, perverse man”), from Proto-Turkic *eĺčgek (“donkey”). Related to Proto-Mongolic *elǰigen (“donkey”), whence Mongolian илжиг (ilžig, “donkey”), perhaps from a common source or a result of language contact. Nişanyan thinks Old Turkic [script needed] (eşgek, “donkey”) may be derived from Old Turkic [script needed] (eş-, “to walk, trot”) (for which see eşmek). Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (eşgek, “donkey”), Azerbaijani eşşək (“donkey”), Bashkir ишәк (işək, “donkey”), Kazakh есек (esek), Chuvash ашак (aš̬ak, “donkey”), Kyrgyz эшек (eşek, “donkey”), Turkmen eşek (“donkey”), Uzbek eshak (“donkey”), and Russian ишак (išak, “donkey”).
