Étymologie (Anglais)

Of Germanic origin; possibly from Gothic 𐍃𐌻𐌰𐌹𐌷𐍄𐍃 (slaihts), from Proto-Germanic *slihtaz (“smooth”), in which case the term is cognate with English slight, German schlicht and Dutch slecht. Compare Sicilian schittu and the relearned schettu.
