Étymologie (Anglais)

In summary

From Middle High German wambe, from Old High German wamba, from Proto-Germanic *wambō. Cognate with English womb. Wamme shows the normal Standard German development -mb- → -mm-, whereas the variant Wampe has an Upper German consonantism. The two are now usually distinguished semantically: Wamme referring to animals, Wampe to people in colloquial use.
