Ramiro and Ramira stem from a Gothic *𐍂𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌼𐌴𐍂𐍃 (*ranamērs) / *𐍂𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌼𐌴𐍂𐌴𐌹𐍃 (*ranamēreis), latinised as Ranamirus or Ramirus. The Gothic name consists of Proto-Germanic *rana- (“corner, wedge”) (compare Old English rand (“edge, rim”)) and *mēraz / *mērijaz (“famous”).
