Ετυμολογία (Αγγλικός)

From Old Galician-Portuguese dom, don, from Late Latin domnus, a syncopated form of Latin dominus (“lord, master”). The Latin form survived in ecclesiastical usage, evolving in Old Portuguese (and Western Romance) via cluster simplification from -mn- to -m-/-n-, with dom standardizing in Portuguese and don in Spanish.
