Προφέρεται ως (IPA)

Ετυμολογία (Αγγλικός)

From Middle Dutch meerrâdic. The second element of the compound derives from Proto-West Germanic *rādik (“radish”). The first element is of uncertain origin and is often held to be equivalent to meer (“more”) in a sense corresponding to Latin maior, with the original meaning then being "greater radish". But note the etymology at German Meerrettich, a cognate (from Old High German meriratih).
