Ετυμολογία (Αγγλικός)

From Latin habentem, present active participle of habeō (“have, hold, possess”). The geminate /bb/ could reflect transmission via an old Italian abbere (variant of avere), analogy with the regular subjunctive form abbia (< Latin habeam), or simply an independent gemination before /j/.
