Ετυμολογία (Αγγλικός)

From Low German Föörd(e) (“ford, shallow water, firth”), from Middle Low German vȫrde, byform (perhaps originally plural) of vōrt, from Proto-Germanic *furduz. Doublet of inherited Furt (“ford, river passage”) and of Fjord (“fjord”), from Old Norse fjǫrðr. This latter may also have influenced the sense of the Low German.
