Ετυμολογία (Αγγλικός)
Etymology tree Proto-Germanic *hamô Proto-West Germanic *hamō Proto-West Germanic *-iþi Proto-West Germanic *hamiþibor. Latin camisiabor.? Arabic قميص Probably from Latin camisia, from Proto-Germanic *hamiþiją. Compare Classical Syriac ܩܡܝܨܬܐ (qamīṣtā, “shirt; undershirt”). A minority of scholars think that the Latin word is indeed borrowed from Semitic. The principal witness for this theory is a Ugaritic form /qms/, seemingly meaning “garment”. However, this word is not attested in any other old Semitic language.
