Etymologie (Englisch)

Normalized spelling of earlier صَلَوٰة (ṣalāh), from Classical Syriac ܨܠܘܬ (ṣəlōṯ), whence the denominal root ص ل و (ṣ l w). It is also thought to be derived from the root و ص ل (w ṣ l). Compare Ugaritic 𐎕𐎍𐎚 (ṣlt). Compare Biblical Hebrew צֶלָה (ṣélā).
