Etimologia (anglès)
First attested as de toekomstige stad Almere in 1973. Named after the ancient hydronym Almere (first attested in 755-768), likely a compound of aal (“eel”) and Old Dutch mere (“lake, pool”). The current city is located roughly where the former lake was located.
