Etimologia (Anglès)
Traditionally derived from dē- + habilis; see the same contraction in dēbeō. Later scholarship suggests instead a derivation from dē- + Proto-Indo-European *bel- (“power, strength”). Compare Sanskrit बल (bala), Russian большой (bolʹšoj), Ancient Greek βελτίων (beltíōn, “better < stronger”).
