From Old Galician-Portuguese saya, from Vulgar Latin *săgĭa, from Latin sagum, cognate of Ancient Greek σάγος (ságos); probably from Paleo-Hispanic (Apian wrote that the word was considered proper of the Celts of Iberia) and ultimately from Celtic.
