Etimologia (Anglès)

Of onomatopoeic origin, from pío (“cheep”, noun), the sound made by a bird, or possibly from Latin pipilāre or pipiāre (“to chirp; to twitter”), of similar imitative origin. Not related to Latin piāre (“to appease; to purify”), which is cognate with the coincidental homonym pío (“pious”, adjective).
